Trends in Architecture Design for 2024

Nyati Equinox - 8

Architecture reflects the Human Psyche. We, as humans, oscillate between the past and the

future while thriving in the Present. It is a stage where we have modernised and simultaneously

we have understood the value of our roots, culture, and heritage. This awareness will influence

architecture and set the trends for 2024. Let’s explore what’s in store in architectural design for

2024.

1) BIM

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is a revolutionary project and Construction

Management method. It is sophisticated and is far more advanced than the 2D approach.

It encompasses all the information necessary for the promising running of an

Architectural Project. Unlike AutoCAD, BIM integrates 4D and 5D elements viz. Time and

Cost. One needs to understand that applications like ArchiCAD, Revit etc. are compatible

with BIM, but BIM is an independent functioning system.

BIM is used extensively around the world and has multiple applications in VR(Virtual

reality) and AR(Augmented Reality), Quantity and Estimation, Schedule of Works,

Forensic Analysis, etc. Such a Cost-effective, sustainable and integrative methodology

will sure trend in architecture in 2024.

2) Imitation is the best form of FlatteryWith the rise in the prices of construction materials and craftsmanship, the use of faux

materials has already started to trend. In today’s scenario, it is very difficult to find

craftsmen that are exceptional yet affordable.

The markets are flooded with manmade materials ranging from faux wood, stone, tiles,

and even artificial grass and plants. Faux materials literally mean fake manmade

materials. Yet the materials are more durable, cost-efficient, easy to maintain and imitate

the original feel and texture of the original natural material. Considering so many

benefits, it won’t be surprising if in 2024, the extensive use of faux material doesn’t

trend.

3) Vertical Landscapes

Who doesn’t love greenery and the blissful touch of nature?

But, with the shortage of space and cramped up high storied buildings, it’s impossible to

have a lush garden with swaying branches and nutating lilies. Perhaps the solution to

this conundrum lies with the verticality of urban architecture.

With unavailability of open space, we cannot plant horizontally. But the vertical areas of

the facade can be used for planting. While designing a new building, spaces can be

dedicated for Vertical Landscaping. But with already built buildings or where there is a

shortage of space, vertical landscape can be installed readily with the help of trellis and

vertical soil bearing systems.

Vertical gardens come with a lot of benefits suchlike noise reduction, less soil erosion,

better quality air , and a lot more. The pandemic also pushed people to accept the value of

nature and, with the advancements in building technology, Vertical Landscapes are a

sure trend for 2024.

4) Inspirational Heritage

In contrast to the earlier themes discussed, it is trending for architects and homeowners

to get Heritage inspired spaces designed. There are multiple themes that can be explored

as per the client requirements. As per taste, one can dream of an artistic Renaissance

Italian Villa, a posh Colonial bungalow or a humble vernacular coastal abode. One can

take inspiration from any historic style of architecture and have a space designed

inspired from their affectionate illustration of heritage. This can be considered a silver

lining to the dark clouds of the pandemic that people started seeing beauty in exquisite

styles from the past and understanding the warmth in them.
